On Friday, March 30 Liván Hernández was released from his minor league contract by the Houston Astros. So the enterprising Hernández drove 15 miles northwest and stopped at the Atlanta Braves training camp — where they signed him to a $750,000 contract stacked with performance incentives. That’s a productive couple of hours.
Article here.
Note: I first heard the story while listening to the Cubs game on Saturday when their play-by-play team, Pat Hughes and Keith Moreland, brought it up and were suitably impressed. Moreland is a fantastic color guy, btw, replacing the legendary Ron Santo.
